Story Analysis and Summary: May Day Eve by Nick Joaquin

I was wondering how will I make this blog active even if I don't have topics in my head. So I decided to put my story analysis that I used last semester (first semester A.Y. 2014-2015) in our Philippine Literature subject.
My professor instructs us to give the summary of the story, then analyzed it afterwards. For the analysis we are going to give the implications of the story, plot, theme and the inner conflict. Also, the realizations and the message of the story.

So, for my first entry, I chose Mayday Eve by Nick Joaquin.

SUMMARY:

The story started with a flashback. Dona Agueda was facing the mirror on Monday eve because her sister told her to do so. Dona Agueda really believed in her sister. That's when she faced the mirror, her future lover would appear in the mirror.

As soon as Don Badoy appeared in the mirror, they decide to marry each other because they believed in Anastasia. When they got their married life began to be miserable. Because of the fact that they don't love each other and nothing special happened to them.

IMPLICATIONS:

The story implies that we should not believe in superstitions. In marriage, we should always consider love because love is the foundation of all.
We shouldn't force another person to love us in return. Instead, do something special in order for you to be loved back.

THEME:

The theme centers on intense remorse caused by wrong decisions. Like believing in superstitions.

PLOT:

The plot revolves around Don Badoy who live his life with regrets. He realizes that Dona Aguedaforces him to marry her.

INNER CONFLICT:

He could not accept what he had done to Dona Agueda, a miserable life. He could not accept that he takes advantage of the superstitions.

REALIZATIONS:

He could not undo what he had done.

MESSAGE:

You are willing to make sacrifices for the one you love.

----

So that would be all. Thank you for reading! You can leave comments. :)

BULSU @ 110 ACHIEVING EXCELENCE AMIDST ADVERSITIES - 9TH OF DECEMBER 2014

Last December 9, 2014 is the opening program of the 110th Founding anniversary of BSU (Bulacan State University). Even though we are not forced to attend the celebration because of the bad weather due to typhoon Ruby, my friends and I decided to go to school. We have to pass to the case study in our Micro economics Theory and Practice subject.

Just to go to the real topic, I went to school at around 8:30 in the morning. But unfortunately the first program was already started, which is the Eucharistic mass. It was preceded by the Reverend father of the Immaculate Conception in Malolos. I like his homily. The message was like this, “You must remember your difficulties in the past, for you to become a better person. And also, “You must forgive in order to move forward.” It was such a remarkable word. Before I forgot, kanina nalang ulit ako naka attend ng mass since I always attend at Victory Church.

After the Eucharistic mass, it was followed by the presentation of the different BulSU Clubs like SaringHimig, HyperDynamics, BulSU Symphonic Band etc.Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado was also there to celebrate with us. Unfortunately, Sen. Pia Cayetano which happened to be the guest speaker failed to come. By the way, she’s also a Bulakenya.

Makata Tawanan— Talentadong Pinoy Hall of Famer was also a guest. He did an amazing show to entertain us. I like how he delivers his speech and poem.  I also knew that he was a ComTech graduate at BSU way back 2001. Such a talented Bulakenyo. He is also with another Hall of Famer “The Ladder Balancer”. We’re very amazed by his talent. His from Marinduque. I forgot his name.

My friends and I took some photos at the stage. (Medyo nakakahiya kasi pinagtitinginan kami ng mga tao habang nagpipicture. HAHA) But what is important, we enjoyed doing the same thing together. :)

Life is short. We, people have only limited life span so we need to live it to the fullest. Now is the time! Take a change. Don’t waste your limited time. Start doing good things to others because when are you going to do that? We cannot go back to the past. Now is the time to serve God. Do it until the end of time. It is worth it by the way.

"A DAY WELL SPENT" 28TH OF OCTOBER

Yesterday, October 28, 2014 we've been to Red Salon at Tomas Morato to get our hair a rebond.  We are well accommodated at the said salon. I just love their service and the ambiance was really good. I wasn't able to take the before photo, but here's my look after the session.

It's almost 3:00 pm when we finished. We ate our lunch at Lugaw Republic. We tried their best seller Pilu-gaw and Tokwa't Baboy. As shown in the picture below. (credits to google for the photo)

After that we went to SM North Edsa to meet up with our mom. Since she doesn't eat yet they decided to eat at Kenny Rogers. Their desserts were great. We tried the brownie temptation. Shown in the figure below. (credits to google again for the photo)

It is a very tiring day for us. But it is all worth it. A day well spent with the family is the best day ever.

# 1 of 100: Music and Lyrics

Music and Lyrics is about Alex Fetcher (Hugh Grant) a crap '80's pop star. He was tasked to write and record with the reigning diva Cora Corman (Hayley Bennett). But Alex hasn't written a song for years.

Until Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore) entered the scene. At first Sophie was disinclined to collaborate with Alex. As they work together, their chemistry heats up and finally composed a song Way Back into Love.

I just love the movie since I love music so much.

The world is not a wish granting factory.

"The world is not a wish granting factory." This quote is from one of the best selling novel and also a movie now The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

The quote implies that you must do something in order for your wish to come true. Because the world is not like the cartoons that you've watched. You don't have Doraemon, that can give you the things that you need. You don't have a fairy godmother that can give you a dress. You don't have a Ginnie like in Aladdin that can grant anything you wish.

So, you must work hard and do something to make everything come true. Dream big and work hard.
